Bettadamalali Estate was established by the Europeans in the early 1900's and at the time was called Semeyseelinkhan estate. After a few years, financial troubles led the first owners to sell the estate to Mr Hanumanthppa, a well known businessman from the town of Chikmagalur. Our founder, Mr A D Rame Gowda, a rice farmer at the time in the nearby village of Aneganahalli, foresaw the benefits of growing coffee and purchased the estate from Mr Hanumanthappa in April 1946. He renamed it Bettadamalali Estate thereafter taking the name from the nearby village that bore the same name.
As the name suggests in the regional language - Kannada, Bettadamalali Estate is situated amidst hills and valleys that form a part of the chain of mountains running along the Western perimeter of the Deccan Plateau called the Western Ghats. This region is referred to as Malnad in the state of Karnataka.
The estate is now being managed by Mr A R Nagesh Gowda (son of the founder) and his family.
